Max Design   #1

Games developed: 6
Games published: 3
Period: 1991 - 1998

Max Design is an underrated Austrian developer concentrating on solid strategy and business simulations. Their games, such as Burntime and 1869 blend simulation, strategy, and some adventure elements to create captivating experience. Their first game 1869 brought new life into the historical trading genre, when that game type, which was overflooded with games in the late 80's (Die Fugger, Vermeer, Hanse...), already seemed to be dead for good. Their latest game Anno 1602 (a.k.a. 1602 A.D., a co-production with Sunflowers, was the most successful game of 1998 in Germany (both in the press and by sales) and became an international hit later on. Bought out by Sunflowers in late 1990s, but still exists as a separate design house.
